Position Title: Intensive Oupatient Drug and Alcohol Counselor
Reports to: Clinical Supervisor
Position Summary
The Substance Abuse Therapist must have knowledge and understanding of clinical practice including the DSM IV-R diagnoses, NA/AA programs, the disease concept, clinical treatment, pharmacological treatments, and concepts of substance abuse and addiction. Must understand and follow State policies affecting substance abuse programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possesses a Master's degree in a clinical field and is a LPAC or CADC
- Possesses a Master's degree and is a CAAC working towards a CADC
- Possesses a Bachelor's degree with a CAAC or a CADC
- Possesses credentials, certification, or licenses which allow for reimbursement in the State of Delaware
- Must have one year of full-time paid experience in the provision of substance abuse treatment prior to hire
- Must document and demonstrate expertise and skill in prividing clinical service in all aspects of substance abuse
- Must be able to triage patients to appropriate clinical services
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Possesses the skills and ability to work with people across age, race, and socio-ecomonic status
- If in recovery , must have three years of documented abstinence and ongoing involvement an AA or NA program
Position Duties and Responsibilities
Treatment:
- Asses treatment needs for alcohol and substance involved clients and develops treatment goals
- Provides educational lectures on topics related to alcoholism and drug addiction
- Leads focused discussions and counseling groups
Documentation:
- Completes forms related to treatment
- Maintains professional treatment notes related to treatment contacts
- Completes treatment plans and other doucumentation
Treatment Coordination and Communication:
- Works as part of a treatment team and make referrals as neccesary physicians and other clinicians
- Makes verbal and written reports to collateral professionals regarding the progress of alcoholic and drug addicted clients
- Maintains availability and responsiveness to clerical and administrative staff
Continuous Quality Imporvement:
- Helps with continuous quality impovement efforts
- Complies with all State requirements for IOP drug and alcohol treatment programs
